You can easily follow new users through the em ebook interface as well. Really, the only thing we found the original Instagram app necessary for is sharing and applying filters to new photos we took. Overall, em ebook is an incredible value and easily one of the best Instagram clients currently available for iOS, a must download for any Instagram addict. The iPad is a perfect device for taking and sharing notes. There are dozens of apps available that provide this exact functionality, so em ebook is only one of many options in a very crowded field. This is partially what makes it so hard to recommend the app as a viable solution for note taking. The app is designed to look and feel like a notebook, but the actual interface consists almost entirely of large, often stretched buttons, an awkward text input and blocky instructions. While the app has only a handful of features, it took us some time to find and use each of them in turn. When opening the app, you select a subject and then a chapter from that subject, ostensibly to mimic a real notebook. You can then write notes in that notebook as well as add photos. This is a useful function, but is limited in that it does not access your camera, only your photo library. Additionally, there are ads in the lite version that can be distracting (especially when taking notes in class) and the final PDF that the program creates when sharing is poorly formatted and does not always send properly. The concept behind em ebook is wonderful. A simple app designed to organize your coursework by subject and chapter, and make sharing a snap. But the execution is limiting. Functions are unnecessarily complex, sharing does not always work properly, the interface is clunky and unattractive, and the ads are very distracting -- even for a free app. There are many other note taking apps (many of them free) that are better polished and offer more features. We recommend downloading one of them. One of the beautiful things about the App Store is that it has just about anything you can imagine. Whether as a programming experiment or to fulfill a real purpose, if you can think of a simple task, the odds are that you will find an app to fit the need in the App Store. And that's certainly the case with em ebook, an app that allows you to spin for a random number on your phone. The app has no menus and no options -- just the corner of a roulette wheel and a play button that activates the wheel. Spin as many times as you like for a number or card suit. This is a simple app, so there is very little to recommend or dissuade you from downloading it. It is, of course, free and because there are no ads, you likely won't find a better random number generator in the form of a roulette wheel. The purpose of the app is not immediately apparent. One suspects that if you need your lucky number to appear or if you are playing a game with friends and need a random number, it is the best way to generate one. There are plenty of free dice apps in the app store as well, but for someone with a love for the casino aesthetic, this is as good an option as any. Despite its appearance, em ebook is not a game -- it is a random number generator with a shiny cover. But it is free, and it works quite well, so if that's what you are looking for, we recommend this app. It is small, so it won't take up much space on your device, it's quick, and it doesn't spit out the same number too many times (as often happens with "random" number generators). With mobile computing becoming the norm, more and more utilities are being made available for phone and tablet use. em ebook has now introduced its zip file tool to the mobile world, and simply put: It works. em ebook smartly opens with a two-page, quick tutorial for opening zip files on your iPhone or iPad. To open an e-mail zip attachment, just tap and hold the attachment and then tap Open in em ebook when the menu pops up. To open files from a Web page, the steps are the same. It's as easy as that. Using a zip attachment in our e-mail, we followed the instructions and were able to open our zip file; each of the Word docs in the zip file appeared on the screen where we could tap to view each one. Likewise, when we opened a zip file from a Web page, the files appeared for view on our screen, and they remained there until we sent them to the Trash to delete. We love apps that are simple and straightforward to use. em ebook definitely fits that description. We recommend it for all users. We weren't really sure what to expect when we first opened em ebook on our iPhone. And, honestly, after spending a bit of time testing it, we're still not exactly sure of its purpose. It's supposed to create an augmented reality using auras, but these auras aren't the kind that psychics speak of; rather, according to app description, they are the "images, videos or even games that Aurasma will bring to life ..." OK, then. There is nothing intuitive about em ebook when you first open it. It opens with your camera ready to take a picture. There are three menu items along the left side of the camera screen to access your auras, create an aura, and access the Help menu, which is where we went right off the bat. The Help menu is broken into various categories that aim to answer such questions as: What is an Aura? What are Super Auras? Each question offered a lengthy explanation that didn't really help us to understand the app's purpose. We skipped ahead to Making Auras, which offered a way-too-long explanation. We took a picture and then were taken to a menu that offered really odd animations, images, and videos to add to our picture. Once we added our image (a swimming cat), we were then asked to name our Aura. The swimming cat picture appeared over the top of the picture we took with the camera. We could move, resize, or rotate the picture and then save it, which we did. A pop-up window said that the image would be available on our iPhone, but we couldn't locate it in our camera roll. The whole experience was puzzling to say the least. We'll cut to the chase: This app made no sense to us. W
